Art Paper Action ~ Friday Freebie
Last week I made a Photoshop tutorial that showed you a simple way of making an art paper type of texture. If you missed the video you can catch it here.
It was pointed out to me that the technique could be turned into a brilliant action. So here it is.
You can download the action here: https://www.gavtrain.com/free/artpaper.zip
This is a one click action, so once you’ve installed it you only need to hit the play button. The first thing the action will do is to make a copy of your photo and it’s the copy that gets the effect, leaving your original photo untouched.
I’ve designed the action so the texture effect is left as a layer that’s independent of the image. So after you’ve run the action, try adjusting the layer blending mode, opacity or adding some colour effects to fine tune the texture.
Usual rules apply. The action is copyright Gavin Hoey 2012. You may use it for personal, non-commercial purposes only and please do not redistribute without permission. Thank you and enjoy
Wonderful Gavin, I am finding your site very refreshing and a source for new inspiration…Great work!!
Thanks Gavin. Quick question though, is the action constrained by the image size as it was in the video last week?
The action resizes the final image to 4000 pixels on the longest edge regardless of inital size, so you can start with any sized image 🙂
Smashing! Thank you Gavin
Great! many thanks Gavin
Thanks for all your work Gavin
Hi Gavin. Can i use this blogpost as a tip and link from my website. I have a norwegiab photo blog and i think this can be nice news to my readers.
You’re very welcome to link back to this page Robert.
Thank you very much!!!
Thanks Gavin for all you tutorials you produce.
I have one question, does this action work in Photoshop Elements 10?
Thanks again for all your help for us that are not as talented.
I’ve not tried it Mike. There’s one step that’s not in Elements 10 (but is in Elements 11) so you may well get an error message at the start. Th step resizes the image but if you hit continue the rest of the action should run fine.
Great effect Gavin – many thanks. May be worth noting that you really ought to have black and white selected as your foreground and background colours before starting the action – I inadvertently still had two darkish greys from my previous project, and the effect didn’t turn out at all like your demo! I was quite disappointed until I found my blunder… 😉
Good point Graham. I’ve now updated the action to stop that happening 🙂
Now that’s what I call service!! Many thanks Gavin.
Hi Gavin,
I have downloaded the action file but how do i save it in photoshop as an action??. ( bit of a novice }
